Tensile

A web app that stress-tests a business idea and gives it a rating out of 100.

Prototype, unpublished until the new backend rules are applied. Screens are from demo mode on six sample ideas.

2 checks every idea passes before any analysis runs; if either fails, the request stops

Twenty-nine seconds in demo mode: an idea goes in, the test runs, the plate is stamped, then the board and one idea opened from it.

What I made

Describe an idea in a few sentences and Tensile comes back with a market size, the ways it could fail, a stronger version, a four-week plan and a rating out of 100. The first version was a quick prototype for a small group.

In September 2026 I rewrote its safety checks and board rules, redesigned the interface and wrote 44 tests.

  1. Ideaa few sentences and a category
  2. Pre-screena narrow phrase list, no model call
  3. Moderationa model check that fails closed
  4. Analysismarket, failure modes, stronger version, plan, rating
  5. Boardlisted only once approved, never with a name
What happens to an idea between the text box and the board. A decline at either check ends the request, and a declined idea is never stored.

What came out of it

The redesign

The interface is built around one element, an orange rating plate that is stamped once an idea is rated. It is the only orange in the app.

The same plate while the test runs: grey instead of orange, an elapsed timer reading 0:02, an empty scale, and a six-step log from 'Sizing the market' (running) to 'Planning the first four weeks' (queued).
While a test runs, the plate stays grey and a log shows each step.
An idea opened from the board in a dialog: the ticker $SCSO with share and close buttons, an orange plate rating scheduling software for physical therapy clinics 58 out of 100, and the quick stats below it.
An idea opened from the board.

The board

Only approved ideas are public. An idea that passes moderation but doesn't suit the board stays private, and no submitter's name appears anywhere.

The Board: a heading, a quote strip of tickers with market caps and vote changes, a search box, Hot, New and Top sort buttons, and a table of six sample ideas with symbol, idea, market cap, votes and a large rating from 39 to 64.
The board reads like a markets table: the rating leads each row, and there are no names.

On a phone

A result on a phone: the orange plate spans the screen with the rating 64 out of 100, the scale, the idea, the rationale and a two-by-two grid of symbol, category, market cap and sample label.
A rated idea on a phone.
The board on a phone: a swipeable quote strip, a full-width search and sort control, and ideas in two-line rows with the ticker, category, idea text, market cap, age, vote buttons and the rating on the right.
Board rows switch to two lines.

Where it's going

The full version is a public web app: anyone can stress-test an idea, get a rating and a four-week plan, and list it on a board of approved ideas with no names.
