An integrative approach to development has revealed how genetic predispositions interact with environmental exposures to affect development. These can include things like prenatal toxins, or damaging early social settings and influence the risk and manifestation of ASD in developing children. Neurological studies have have further explained underlying brain function and structures relating to ASD symptoms, which has deepened our understanding of the complex nature of the topic. Through examining ASD through varied perspectives, we have been able to identify critical periods for intervention and development. This places an emphasis on the importance of tailoring support effectively and the importance of detecting it early in children. Ultimately it will allow for better treatment and assistance for those who have ASD in the future, enhancing the quality of life for those people.
